About this Blog

Welcome to the High Valley Hanoverians web blog (shortname = HVHBlog) !!  Whether you came to this site intentionally or stumbled upon us, we hope that you stick around for just a little while to get to know us and determine if you would like to be part of our “journey”.

About Us:  High Valley Hanoverians is a Hanoverian mare and young horse station in the foothills of the Southern Appalachian Mountains.  We breed Elite Hanoverian mares to some of the very best stallions in the USA and Germany to produce Hanoverian performance athletes with exceptional temperament that are suitable for Adult Amateur and Young Riders.   We simply do NOT believe that the best equine athletes have to be imported from Europe or unnaturally spirited (aka “fire breathing dragons”).  Certainly some of the best equine athletes are imported (we have a few of these mares) and some of the best equine athletes are also a bit more spirited (we have a few of these also).   But, we firmly believe that equine athletes can be at the top of their game and also have a temperament that makes them FUN and SAFE for the amateur rider.

Why did we start this blog?  Well, a few of our friends & colleagues have commented that our horses seem to be better tempered and have better (English) foundation training than other warmbloods of comparable age.   And, these colleagues keep asking us how we do it. So, we decided to start an online journal of our “journey” in the development of our young Hanoverian horses from foals through to Grand Prix.  Admittedly we are a long way from the GP goal…. but have a plan.  :)

Who are the Authors & Contributors?  I am the breeder, owner, main horse-butt-wiper and #1 fan of these exceptional horses.   I provide inspiration and passion for Young Horse development and will post or make comments when appropriate.  But, as a chubby woman in her 50′s with bad knees, I certainly can’t make this Young Horse transformation happen on my own.   Thus, I rely heavily on a few exceptionally talented trainers and coaches.   At the top of this list is our full-time, resident Young Horse Trainer, Ashley Marascalco.  Ashley is a lovely young woman personally and professionally, a beautiful rider and an exceptional trainer who has ridden/trained horses through to the Grand Prix (dressage) level.   Ashley also has an exceptional talent for working with young horses who instinctively develop a deep bond with her.  The result is a true partnership.   Ashley will be one of the primary posting authors on this blog.   And, we welcome questions and comments from all of our readers and encourage like-minded Young Horse trainers to become guest contributors.

We certainly don’t want to wear out or welcome  by posting too much.   I would much rather we wear holes in the seats of our breeches than wear out our keyboards.   Thus our plan is to post 2-3x per week to cover some riding and ground handling topics, plus post updates on the progress of a few horses that we will introduce to you.

If we haven’t bored you too much, subscribe to this blog, provide a comment or simply drop in from time to time.   We would love to develop a relationship with you.

Warm Regards,
Annetta Coleman

I am honored to be apart of this process, and even more honored to call High Valley Hanoverians my home away from home. I truly love the horses that I work with and I am looking forward to sharing my passion. Thank you High Valley for this amazing opportunity.
